The editor-in-chief’s column discusses the materials of Issue 5 (137) of Theoretical Economy for 2026 and announces the appointment of Elena L. Andreeva to the journal’s editorial board. The issue is presented through a common question concerning the institutions that can transform technological, financial and organizational change into sustainable economic development. The papers examine the social foundations of conspicuous consumption, the renewal of planning in the Russian energy sector, the emergence of the platform order and possible changes in the economic formation under the influence of advanced technologies. Considerable attention is paid to Russia’s science and technology strategy, the financial conditions of new industrialization and the quality of capital markets. The world economy papers address Vietnam’s digital transformation and the informed selection of export markets. Contributions by young researchers connect access to finance and trust in information and digital systems with entrepreneurship, education and quality of life.
