The aim of the work is to identify the features and prospects of development and regulation of trade and economic cooperation of countries within the framework of regional associations of integration (Eurasian Economic Union) and non-integration (BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization) types. Within the framework of the main goal, a more specific task was solved, concerning the study of the features and directions of development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is a partnership of the countries of Greater Eurasia, whose influence on the global economic and political arena is rapidly increasing. The typology of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was determined based on the composition and nature of the key areas of trade and economic cooperation of the participating countries. In particular, an answer was received to the question of whether the SCO is to a large extent an integration or non-integration association. The methodology of the study was based on the analysis of conceptual approaches to the development and regulation of trade and economic cooperation between countries within the framework of regional associations of integration and non-integration types. Specific criteria were established that allow the association to be classified as an integration or non-integration type. The study of integration associations is based on the example of the Eurasian Economic Union (hereinafter referred to as the EAEU); the association is an example of an emerging economic union, which currently has enormous prospects for integration of the economic processes of its member countries. The study was based on the experience of BRICS as the most dynamically developing association of countries that does not involve formal mechanisms of trade and economic integration.
